Exporting a Telegram chat

Telegram Desktop can export a single conversation as machine-readable JSON. That's the format Kyle reads.

On Telegram Desktop

  1. 01Open Telegram Desktop and go to the conversation.
  2. 02Click the three dots in the top right, then Export chat history.
  3. 03Untick photos, videos, voice messages and files.
  4. 04Set Format to Machine-readable JSON.
  5. 05Click Export and wait for it to finish.

What to upload

  1. 01Open the folder Telegram created.
  2. 02Find the file named result.json.
  3. 03Upload result.json here.
  4. 04Or upload the whole exported folder zipped up.
  5. 05Full account exports work too — Kyle takes the busiest chat.

Zipped exports are fine

Zip the export folder and upload it as-is if that's easier. Kyle looks inside and picks out result.json.
